Defective Hair Day

Defective Hair Day

One of my Blog friends told how she was trying to cover up a few silver colored hairs in her head and ended up with something somewhat different than she expected. Well, let me tell you about some of my hairy experiments. There was the time I decided I wanted to go blond. I considered having it done in a salon, but I’m always about saving money. Blond was a shade I had never tried before, and I wanted to see for myself if blondes have more fun. This was forty years ago, and I still don’t know if it’s true or not because it wasn’t even close to blond. It was bright neon orange. I looked like a traffic signal, only brighter, much brighter. I had to go to work the following day. I knew I couldn’t go on vacation on such short notice, so I swallowed my pride and walked in the next morning. It didn’t take much to set those co-workers off. They heehawed and cackled like a bunch of chickens. The orange hair either grew out or I covered it up with something else.
You would think I would have learned my lesson, but I didn’t learn it very well. One time I ended up with blue hair. I looked like Homer Simpson’s wife for awhile. I’m not sure what I had been aiming for that time. I went through the coal black hair. That was the one that drew the most shocked looks. Orange was funny, blue was ugly, black was shocking, as though they had just had an encounter with a space alien. Now I just leave it alone and hope it doesn’t all fall out.

Even as a 30somthing I have had the same problem. I tried to colour my own hair and it ended up Bright Orange. Now the only way I colour is via a professional doing it.

Oh, the defective hair days I have seen! Too many to remember or write about!!! Suffice it to say, I NEVER do it on my own anymore! Thanks for the smiles Lorrene and the memories of all those laughable days gone by.

I have never dyed my hair, and really, really, really hope I don't start going grey for a long time so it's never necessary. Just my luck I'd turn it purple.

I've lived my whole life with orange hair so I bet that was the best. I did have a period of green hair that was really crazy as it was only green from my shoulders down the rest was still orange.

For me the last time I did that was only about 6 months ago and it was not the first time either. I think us woman are all the same, it does not matter which part of the world we are from, say's an Aussie. LOL.

Back in the 198s my cousin and uncle spent their winters in Mexico. My aunt went to the drug store and bought a box of L'Oreal in a color she thought was right for her. She put it on her head and when she rinsed it off her scalp was black! She said it looked like a helmet so she went to the hairdresser to get it stripped. After that she had orange hair! Then my grandmother died so she had orange hair at the funeral whereas she'd always been a brunette so the family pictures look strange.

Okay, I don't know what the computer did to my post, but it was the 1980s when my aunt and uncle were spending winters in Mexico and my cousin convinced her mother to color her hair to cover the gray.

15 years or so ago, my daughter's finally convinced me to put some color on my hair, to cover the grey. We used henna, which is like slapping a handful of mud on your head for a half hour or so. When we rinsed it off (quite an ordeal, all that glop), my brown hair was still brown...but the grey was bright pink! Ack!

I do color my hair now, to no great harm, but you have had me rethink my recent thought of going blonder...

Great post that really brought back memories...

Why are women growing their hair out to below their breasts?? They have all copied the same do and look like hell. Long hair on 40 something women looks ridiculous.
Please:

Men, knock off with the attempts to grow beards, most of you look like hell in you puny fuzz, and only a very few have the facial structure to pull it off.

Especially those faces on TV. Ditto women. Take a clue from Pesky Katy Currie, and Kelly Rippa. As bad as they are they at least have the hair thing right.

Anonymous: I can see why you don't want to reveal who you are. Well, some of us aging hippie chicks like our hair long, our husbands like it long, and don't care what you think.
