Killing Time

In my younger days, my life revolved around an ironing board. Everything had to be ironed. On Sunday evening I had to drag out the ironing board because the kid's gym clothes needed to be ironed. My husband had spent many years in the military and he liked the khaki uniform so well he still wanted to wear the khaki pants and his work shirts were khaki and believe me they were not fun. They had to be starched and ironed. I was younger then and had some energy so it was just part of life, I didn't think anything about it. They didn't have the fabric in those days that didn't require ironing.

I got my hair cut today for another five weeks.
Now I sit here waiting for a phone call to let me know my fifth great granddaughter has arrived. I wish she would hurry up, I'm getting tired of waiting. Her mother has been in labor since yesterday.
I don't have anything new to write about, just killing time.
We're having winds today. Lots of rain so far this year. I know that's due to change any day.
I guess this is it until something interesting happens.
We had a family get-together last Saturday. Here are couple pictures of the kids. I have a lot of pictures on my phone, but I don't know how to get to them from here.

Laura and Terry due to be parents any minute.

Not for Sure

If it wasn't for doctors I'd have no life at all. They all call me Retha, my alter ego. I was named Retha Lorrene Lockwood. The family decided to call me Lorrene. If I knew then what I know now I would have insisted on being called Retha.
I just want a normal name that everyone knows how to pronounce and I wouldn't need to remember which name I used when I signed a certain paper.
I didn't  think much about this name business until recently and my life revolves around doctors and not much of anything else except insurance companies. Sometimes if I want to remain anonymous I sign my name Eula Noodle. I had a baby sister and she died when I was 8 years old. Her name was Eulabell. Don't you know I would have probably pinned Eula Noodle on her.
Back to insurance companies. I had a sleep study started back in August. They called in a few days and asked me to come in for another one. I didn't think it was necessary so I declined. Not the most intelligent thing I ever did so I later regretted it and after a few months, I decided to go through with it. No problemo, they set me up with a time for it and I slept in their facility wired up like a ticking time bomb. I managed to get enough sleep to determine I have sleep apnea. Again they wanted me to come in for another sleep study so I said okay. They said they would call later and set up a date for it. Finally today they called and said it had been so long since I had first started it the insurance will not pay for it unless I start over by going back to the doctor. I asked if she was sure because that makes no sense at all. She said she wasn't sure and I should call their billing dept and talk to so and so. And what if they don't know for sure. I sure don't know for sure. If I ever find out for sure I may have the sleep study done once more.

When We Lived on the 60

Eons ago when I was about 10 years old I lived with my parents and four siblings in a small NO bedroom house in Oklahoma. It was located on a hill; by Washington state standards it would be called a bump. Anyway, we lived on this bump and it was in the country. The place had a name, it was called The 60. We had no pets or nearby neighbors. The nearest thing to a pet was a few snakes that hung out on a rocky ledge that overlooked the countryside. My oldest brother, who was my worst enemy at that time had found a stray dog, it was a big white dog. I didn't happen to know about the dog yet, and one night I was sitting in the corner by the table and a window without a shade. It was pitch dark outside when Cecil said, "look out the window".  The dog had jumped up with his paws propped up on the window. All I saw was the eyes of the dogs staring right at me. I screeched and almost turned the table over trying to get away from that window. I can still hear him laughing, Cecil, not the dog.
Now, that I am old, I remember the most ridiculous things.

Till We Meet Again

I tried to learn how to play the piano once upon a time (a long time) ago. We bought a piano because I was going to learn how to play it. I didn't need lessons, I taught myself how to crochet and knit so what can be so hard about playing a piano. I learned how to play a song. I can't remember the name of it, but it goes like this. My Bonnie lies over the ocean, my Bonnie lies over the sea la la la. My body has twoburkulosis, My body has only one lung. the song goes on, but my memory falls short.
I knew the song so I played it over and over until one day I noticed my husband had cotton stuffed in his ears so I suggested we move the piano to the back bedroom. He leaped out of his chair and grabbed the end of the piano and pulled it away from the wall and somehow we managed to get it in the back bedroom. Time moved on and I grew tired of the piano and knew I would never learn how to play it so one day I suggested we sell it. About three days later when I came home from work he told me he had sold the piano. They were coming to get it that evening. He never did get around to putting a bathroom in the basement or much of anything else, but we got the piano out of the house.
I still miss him. He liked to search the paper for grocery ads and buy the groceries. I hate that task. He loved to cook and he was an excellent cook. He would love the cooking shows. He didn't like to clean house so that was my job. He also took care of the car problems and bought the gas. Till we meet again.
