Press 10 if you're not asleep by now
My latest complaint is answering the phone to a recorded message from a telemarketer.
I have a plan. I want to devise something, such as a button on the phone to press and give them back a recorded message. The message could say:
Press 1 if you are selling credit cards.
Press 2 if you are selling Insulation.
Press 3 if you have questions about a family member or neighbor.
Press 4 if you want me to vote for you.
Press 5 if there is a problem with my bankcard.
Press 6 if you are selling storm windows.
Press 7 if you want to apologize for waking me from a nap.
Press 8 to listen to my new whistle.
Press 9 to hear these options again.
And if they should press one of the buttons, the next message will say This call may be monitored, please stay on the line for the next available operator. There may be a month long wait. Please stay on the line, as your call is not very important to me.

Hurry up and Wait
I got a letter today from my friend that lives in a nursing home. It goes like this.
Good Morning as it is 5 AM. They got me up around 4 to give me a shower and brought me up to the dining room to get my coffee. My right shoulder hurts, even to write, so that is why I don' t write much. I would like to get one of those shots for it, but I don't think they will give me one. I can't walk anymore so I stay in a wheel chair most of the time. I hope you can read this. I am doing fairly well and I'm still in the dining room. Don't know what time breakfast comes so I will just wait and drink coffee and work on my puzzle book.
Your old friend, Elsie
I wonder how some of us would handle it if we were rooted out of bed at 4 AM to take a shower and then parked in the dining room for a couple hours to wait for breakfast. In constant pain on top of it.
She didn't complain about it so it must be par for the course or is it par for the curse in her case.
I have one more thought for today.
So many famous men have smart beautiful wives, but they seem to prefer the cheap sleazy type. I wonder why that is.
Yes, I know they are not all cheap sleazy types but many are.

Just Another Day
My African Violet plant died. I think it was about 10 years old. I did not neglect it. Maybe it committed suicide. It is my fault. I think it needed some new soil.
I've been reading in the Kindle until I'm almost cross-eyed. I have read two complete books and have another started. I didn't know I would enjoy that gadget so much or I would have bought it a long time ago. I am thinking when everybody owns a Kindle they will start charging more for the books. Isn't that the way it goes?
Every time I get on line I have to go to the book store to see what else I might want to read.
I have another annoying appointment tomorrow and outside of my weekly shots I have all those irritating chores out of the way for now.
When I was a kid the doctor would come to you. Can't you just picture that today? They would need to build special roads for all the doctors to use so people wouldn't get in their way.
Back then you didn't see a doctor unless you were half dead. I guess all these doctor visits is why people live so much longer and I should stop complaining about it and be thankful I can can go to a doctor.
One book I read was about slavery and how terrible it was. Written by a woman that lived through it. It was a good book. The other was letters written by a woman in the 1800. Somebody had saved the letters and made a book with them. Very good.

The Wheels of Progress
You started the car with a crank. |
Back in the early 1930’s when I started to school, I learned to read with the Dick and Jane books. I have now evolved to the Kindle. I bought one today and it’s the best thing since indoor plumbing. The world has changed somewhat in that 70 year span. We always walked to school in the mud or snow or whatever elements happened to be going on. Life was uncomplicated. I considered our teacher to be rich because she had a regular job and wore beautiful dresses and had painted fingernails. Her name was Mrs. Moser. Now that I think about it, she lived in a little two-room cabin on the back of the school property. I guess I was easily impressed by pretty dresses and painted fingernails. I think I’ve evolved a little too since those days.
Anyway I have this Kindle and the main thing I love about it is a feature that enlarges the font size. That is perfect for those that have vision that can’t be corrected to normal. I have downloaded some free books because they are old ones, but I love those old books. Even the later books are not very expensive. I can sit in my chair and shop for books and if I think I want one I can download enough of the book to read and see if I like it before buying it. The very first thing I did was buy a book accidentally. Karen (my daughter) was here and setting it up for me. When I bought a book I still don’t think I touched anything, but if you do something so dumb you can check something to say it was an accident and it will be taken off and you do not pay for it. I guess I sound like a kid with a new toy. I’ll shut up now.

Well, I never!
I cannot believe it !!!! The local news just announced that the Animal Right's group are going to make an effort to encourage folks to have their dogs and cats spade and neutered. This is what they are going to do. On the corner of 3rd and Yakima Ave they will have two giant condoms marching around on that corner.
What in the Sam hill do condoms have to do with dogs and cats over breeding.
How are you going to explain that scene to your little kid? This is ridiculous, preposterous, absurd, ludicrous, disgusting and stupid. What do you think?
Today just got a little more boring. My cable went out in the living room and kitchen so I have no TV in those rooms, but the bedroom TV works fine. I don’t know why those TV’s are not getting a signal, but this one in the bedroom is.
The cable to the house goes through the neighbor’s cedar tree and the wind has been whipping that tree around so I am guessing it has something to do with the lack of a signal. I am getting tired of sitting in the bedroom. The cable people will not be here until tomorrow afternoon. I guess I could read instead of watching TV.
What a concept !

Whatever
Whatever happened to semi good manners? One day I went to the mailbox and there was a couple young girls, age about 15 or so, walking down the street instead of the sidewalk. When they got exactly even with me, one of them let out a big gigantic burp. You don’t accidentally burp that loud so I guess it was for my benefit. I wish my friend, Alice, had been there. She would have said, “Honey, did you leave your manners at home?” Then she would have ended up talking to them for an hour. So maybe I’m glad she wasn’t there.
I went to the mall the other day. They have a big new store I have wanted to check out. I found something I wanted to buy, but I couldn’t find the checkout station. I was embarrassed to ask somebody where it was because I knew they would think this hick from the sticks must not get out much. I finally asked another customer if she knew where it was and she began to look around and she couldn’t see it either. She kept looking and finally spotted it. I used my manners and thanked her. In their clothing dept they had racks up so high I couldn’t began to reach up and take something down to check for size and etc. I’ll have to take a stepladder the next time I shop there. They are not the only store with those unreachable racks. So that is my latest pet peeve.
