The Birds Have it

A long time ago my husband and I went to the annual Carnival that was part of the Fall Fair. We came upon the game of winning a parakeet. He decided he would give it a try and Bingo! he won a parakeet. We bought a cage for it and enjoyed it. I think we named him Pete. They are messy and require a lot of time keeping the cage clean. We had it for a year or so until we took a trip to visit my family. We had friends that took the parakeet to care for while we were gone. The Parakeet died while we were gone. I am not sure why or don't remember but we had the cage and one day I saw a little grey bird in the back yard fluttering around and it couldn't get off the ground so I picked it up and I don't know if his wing was broken or what so I put it in the cage and nursed it back to health. It finally got better so I took it outside and put it on the ground. It tried so hard to fly but just couldn't do anything but flutter around. Finally one day when I sat it on the ground it went flying off into the wild blue yonder. The bird was happy and I was happy and I hope he found some friends or his family.
I think it looked like this one, but I don't remember those big feet.

Happy Thanksgiving

It's a beautiful day here. The sun is shining and showing how dirty the window is. I'm thankful for Windex, now if only I had a house cleaner that would show up now and then. I would do it myself, but I do well to get out of my chair and take a few steps. Old age is a bummer.
I have nowhere to go and nothing to do when I get there.
It's Thanksgiving day, my daughter's birthday. It was the day after Thanksgiving when she was born.
Kenny and Chris will be bringing a nice dinner over here for us. I am really looking forward to that.  They should be here within the hour.

Have a great Thanksgiving !!!
Just some random pictures.

Old Stuff

Life can be scary when you're a little kid. Think of your own life as a child. Can't you remember some scary moments? When I was 8 years old we had moved to Colorado from Okla. It was a new school and I didn't know anyone. Someone must have taken me to the room I belonged in and I sat down at one of the desk when a kid came along and told me to get out of their desk. A teacher found me a desk to sit in. I was doing okay until there was some kind of event going on in another town. Busses were lined up and a teacher said for us to go get on our bus. This is the way I remember it. I didn't know which bus I was supposed to get on and instead of asking someone I just climbed on one.  I'm sitting there when a little boy saw me and told me he thought I was on the wrong bus so he told the bus driver. The bus driver took me to the right bus and all ended well. Why wasn't a teacher making sure we got on the right bus? I remember thinking about it later and wondering where I would have ended up.
One time at this same school I was walking home from
school which was only a few blocks but it was a busy street and I was freezing cold. Girls wore dresses in that day and I probably had on long stockings but I was still freezing when a car stopped and asked me if I wanted a ride, I almost jumped in that car to get out of the cold. Then I realized I was in a car with a stranger and I had been told about such things and was scared out of my wits. I started telling him where I lived and was so scared but he pulled over and let me off. I never forgot it. I don't think I ever got in a car with a stranger again. The next time I had a really scary experience was when I was very young adult working in a Coffee Shop. I had to park a block away in a dark area and I was on the evening shift. So I had to go to my car in this dark area and one night just as I got to the car I realized some one was almost on my heels. I jumped in the car as he ran for the passenger side I locked the door and reached over to make sure the other door was locked when he was right there. I got out of there and quit the darn job. I had a 3 year old and tried to take care of him and couldn't get any sleep. My husband was working so we got by without the extra income.
Nothing new ever happens these days so I have to dig up something out of my past.

The Weekend Is Half Over

The Weekend is half over and so am I. I am at least half over and maybe more over than that. Sassy is my guard dog. She is perched on the back of the chair that is near the front door. Speaking of her, today we heard a noise come from the guest bedroom. It scared me and when I saw Sassy with her ears laid back and staring at the doorway I went into high alert. In all the years I've lived here I have never had a mouse or any such creature as far as I know. We didn't hear any more noise so we are back to normal. Well, normal for us anyway.
Winter is here and so far no snow. At least not in my yard.

I have no news so guess it's time to turn this off and run a scan on the TV to see what I can find.

This was taken in 1950.I am holding my newborn, Kenny, Sister-in-law, Florence, and Alice LeMaster. Her name is Tobey now.

Happier Times

Once upon a long time ago, it was November and we were out for a drive. It was just something to do to pass the time away. I was about nine months pregnant and we drove by the new hospital that was being built. The five-year-old in the back seat said, "Oh, it's a girl and she will be born the day after turkey day". We were hoping for a girl, we already had two boys. Well, the night after Turkey day my husband woke me up to ask if I was having pain. I said I wasn't having any pain when a pain hit me. I was having labor pain in my sleep. Now I could feel the pain. He thought we should head for the hospital and I thought we can wait awhile when another pain hit. We had to take the boys over to the grandparents as we had to notify them and deliver the boys. So we got a move on and took care of the details and I delivered a girl on the day after turkey day.
This was before they could know what sex the baby was until you gave birth. Now, I am giving her age away. Her birthday falls on Thanksgiving day this year.
Happy Birthday, Karen Girl.  The Karen Girl comes from a show that was popular at the time. I can't even remember the name of it but it had a John Boy in it. I still call her Karen Girl at times. I think she was born in the new hospital but I'm not sure. Yakima Valley Memorial hospital and I don't care how many times they change the name of it, I still call it Yakima Memorial.

The Olden Daze

It isn't fathers day but I was just thinking of something my Dad did that was so wonderful. We lived in the country in Okla. and one day my Dad saw trucks unloading power poles along the road so he asked them what was going on and they told him we were going to have electricity. We had lived in Colorado for a few years and one of the jobs he had was working for the power company and he had learned to wire a house for electricity so he went shopping and found what he needed and wired our house. He got the necessary permit and had it inspected and we soo had electricity, We had plug-ins and light switches but nothing to plug into the plug-in. That soon changed, Kelvinator refrigeration co was soon in the neighborhood selling them on the installment plan and we bought one and it lasted for years and years.

Sorry about the mess above but I am going to bed so you'll just have to put up with it. I tried to copy and paste and this is what happened. Ain't life fun?

Sing A Song

Everything becomes outdated including me. These hearing aids are so much fun. Today I heard the dish washer running, but I had  not turned it on. Oh, I guess it's the Fridge.
It's not all bad, today when I was in the bathroom I heard water running and discovered I had not turned the water completely off when I took my shower. It probably saved me a few pennies.
That reminds me of when we took those Saturday night baths in the galvanized tub in the middle of the kitchen. We went to church on Sunday so we had to be clean for that. Then my Mom put my hair up in rags yes, I mean rags. It took a strip of cloth and she wound a section of hair around the rag and I have no clue how the rest of it went, but I had curls the next morning. Lots of people used the method in those days.
I can't watch movies anymore. My brain can't move fast enough to keep up with what is going on.
I thought it was my hearing, but my aids are working fine.
I hate this changing the clocks. I never look at the clock without thinking but it's really --0'clock.
And I'll bet you do it too.
I'm listening to my country music. The words to the songs can be interesting. Here are some I just heard.
"I've been saving cuss words under my tongue".
Willie Nelson is singing it.
Well. it's 7:30 but it's really 8:30 so I guess I'll sign off. Happy New Year or whatever it is.

Clouds

The morning clouds moved in and decided we didn't need another soaking so they moved on out to drier territory. Don't we wish clouds had brains but all they have is water. One time I was a kid  (I need to interrupt this sentence to tell you my Dad did not call his kids, kids because he said kids are goats) we woke up to downpouring water that was coming out of the leaky clouds. It rained and rained until the nearby creeks were overflowing including the bridges. I asked my Mommy if I could go wade in the creek and she told me if I would wait a few minutes I could go wade in the yard. I found out as an adult that they were very worried about the flood as they called it. Now, we live in an era when the rain will not stop until it destroys everything for miles around.
I have new hearing aids. They take some getting used to. My own voice was driving me nuts. I had a follow up appointment today and he made adjustments so they are much better.
Kenny put an app on them and I can listen to my goat roping music. The music plays right in my ear.
Chris and I finally have an appointment for hair cuts. I wear the mask and save on make-up. But how can I hide my hair. It seems that most women just wear their hair long and semi straight. Then they can put it in a ponytail. I grew up before the ponytail was heard of and that would have been perfect to my super straight hair.
I've rambled long enough. I will listen to the news. CBS for me.

Sunshine

It's a beautiful sunshiny Saturday morning in the Yakima valley. I'm sitting in my corner listening to my Goat roping music as Chris calls it. Some country is a little gaggy, that is a new adjective I made up. Well, maybe not, spellcheck thinks it's okay. I will admit you can not sleep with Goat Roping music. It keeps you awake. Sometimes you almost jump out of your chair. BUT I like it!!! I need exercise and that is about as close as I'm going to get.

I have about given up my Hooker career. That is what crocheters are known as. I have crocheted so many little dodads that they are coming out of my ears. No, wait that is my new hearing aids in my ears. They will get better as they get used to me or I get used to them. They need to be turned down a few notches, I hear every little squeak that happens down the street. I am afraid of the dark and at night I constantly hear noises just outside the door. Scares the peewadden out of me. Spell check thinks peewadden should be Pete Wadden. He probably wouldn't like it either.
I have nothing on my agenda today unless Chris can get us an appt for haircuts. The last appt had to be canceled.
Sassy, the cat gets under my elbow as I am trying to type. She is stronger than I am. I try to pick her up and sit her on the floor and she digs into the chair and I don't want my chair ruined so I leave her alone.

Stop the World and let me off

What else can go wrong! My laptop and the internet are my lifeline. My Laptop computer decided it wasn't speaking to the Internet anymore, No amount of coaxing on my part had any effect on it. I called a number and there was an outage in this area so I forgot about it until the outage was restored and my Laptop was still not speaking to the internet so I had to wait.
To make a boring story a little more boring I'll jump ahead to a day later when Kenny could come over and hopefully he could decide what was wrong. We thought the router was probably the problem and it was. Spectrum took care of it and now I am online.
