Sleep Issues

I have a new malady, at least it's new to me. I sleep almost constantly. This started just a few days. I also sleep all night. Nothing, I mean zero gets done around here because I have no energy to do anything. Well, I was able to empty and refill the dishwasher today. That was a big accomplishment!!! My back hurts when I stand up and my hips hurt when I walk.
I am doing the leg exercises from the bed or a chair. I think it's helping a little.

This is the only subject matter I have. Merle Haggard once said in an interview that being lonely is one of the worst things that can happen to anyone. He also said anyone 90 years old doesn't know anyone older than him/her. He is right, I am 90 and I don't know anyone older than me.
When Chris and I  were eating out the other day and she ran into a friend that was dining with an old lady that was old like me so we struck up a conversation and she was 94. When old people get together we like to boast about our age to each other. You know, the way 5-year old's do.  Is that where the second childhood came from?
Why do they say to grow old is a blessing? When does the blessing set in? It would be much better if good health could hold out.
I just heard on the news that the Robot calls are nearly always scams and hopefully they will find a way to stop them. I hope they can enforce a law to put them in jail. I just assume if they call me it is probably a scam. I never do any business over the phone unless  I instigate the call or know the person calling. A ringing phone is the most irritating thing to wake up to. You don't like to unplug the phones in case of an emergency.

Happy Dreams

It's the same old rut with me. Just me and my cat.
I'm having another sleep study. That isn't anything new. If they ever get my sleep studied enough maybe I will sleep with a mask on. OH! I can hardly wait. They claim one will sleep deeper and not wake up so often. They can't just give me some sleeping meds because I might get addicted. They also have pain meds for people with pain, but we can't take it because we get addicted to it. If you need it you need it why does it matter if you're addicted.
The Dr thought I would probably wait until June for the study. When I went to the scheduling desk the lady said they just had a cancellation so tomorrow night is available. I took it. Get this over with!
They gave me a sleeping pill so I will be sure and sleep enough so they can decide what to do.  So I had to go to the pharmacy to buy one pill.
 Happy Dreams!

What if?

I just read the book 'Heaven is for Real' by Todd Burpo. A little boy had surgery and claimed he went to heaven. He met his sister that his mother had lost through a miscarriage, and told his parents about her. They didn't even know what sex the baby was.  Anyway the story is very interesting and turns on your 'what if' button. It makes you think of your own family and friends that have passed on. Just this past summer we lost this precious family member, Bob.  He is my nephew. Both his parents have also passed away. He was an only child because his mother had miscarried and lost two or three babies before she was able carry this one full term. I have been thinking of him and wondering if he met his siblings, and  what a celebration that must have been. He left a lot of family behind. He had made a career of the Marines, and when he retired from the marines he went to school, and was working in the medical field when he came down with a rare form of cancer that he thought he may have picked it up while in desert Storm. A chemical dump had been blown up. He thought at the time he was far enough away not to be affected. He was 55 years old when he joined the other side.

Trees and Groceries

There comes a time when you have nothing left to eat, and you go to the store. I thought Sunday morning would be a perfect time to go to Walmart. I was sure it would be nice and quiet over there. I assumed I was the only person that doesn't go to church, well evidently I am not the only one that doesn’t attend church on Sunday Morning.  Everybody and their uncle attend Walmart on Sunday morning. It was a testing of the nerves to weave in and around people trying to find what I wanted. Some folks block a whole aisle so they can have a chitchat conference with their next door neighbor. Those are not my favorite people. When you've spent your last nerve and try to leave it gets even more challenging.  I try to choose the aisle with the least people. I have over twenty items and I need to use one of the slow ones. It doesn't matter which one I choose, the pause button always get pressed. So you stand in the paused line so long, you get acquainted with the folks behind you and the ones in front of you. Finally I get through the line and come home. When I pull into my driveway, wow ! there had been a disaster.
My next door neighbor had the tree in their front yard split and a huge limb fell onto the front of their house. It must have happened last night and I didn’t notice when I backed out of my driveway to leave. The part that hit their house was the smaller branches so maybe it didn’t do any damage or not much anyway.  I just now talked to a neighbor’s and she said the wind blew really hard last night and it rained. I slept through that event.  That is one of the reasons I had a huge blue spruce taken out of my yard a few years ago. The trimming guys said if you do not keep the small branches trimmed out of the top of those spruce trees and you get hard winds, the wind can’t blow trough the tree it will easily blow one of those spruce trees over. Not only that, but the grass can’t grow under it very well and it shed a ton of needles that need to be raked out every year.
This is how my exciting day has gone so far.

Time is something to wait on.

Time for another hair cut. I went to a shop that is open on Sunday’s. I am cheap so I go to the one that doesn’t allow appointments. The in and out type. I know that my favorite stylist works on Sunday. I went at 9 because that is their usual opening time. They don’t open until 10 on Sunday’s.  I didn’t want to go back home so I decided to sit in the car and chew gum for an hour. With dentures, that will take your mind off the time.
I waited and waited and about 9:30 or so one of the other employee’s shows up so I ask her if Debbie would be working today. Debbie works today, but she doesn’t come in until 11 AM. I had forgotten to take my Kindle. I had reminded myself several times to take the Kindle. I think my brain could use a couple new spark plugs, because I still forgot it. I came home and waited and waited. I now have shorter hair.
That is how my day is going so far, how is your day?

Service with a Smile

I ordered something from a catalog. They send me the wrong size, not the size I ordered. I send it back and asked for the correct size. I didn’t have to pay shipping to send it back. I wait and wait and wait for the item to come.  After about three weeks I get a bill from them. Charging me for the amount of the item. I call them to find out where my order is. I have received a bill and no product. After being on hold for a time, I am told that the item is out of stock and they cannot fill the order. I explain to her that they have charged me the full amount. She tells me that I will only need to pay the shipping charge. “Shipping charge for what, they haven’t shipped anything, but the wrong size and that was their mistake”. So she needs to discuss this with a superior and asked me to hold again. Finally she comes back on line and tells me that as a one-time courtesy they will waive that shipping charge.   I guess that means the next time they goof up it will be my responsibility.  Oh well, as my mother used to say ''It'll all come out in the wash"

Prisoners of War

A sack of bones, but he made it.

A family friend had a father that was in a POW camp between 1941 and 1945. His father had put together a keepsake album of pictures and poems that the prisoners had. Most of the pictures were hand drawn by a couple of the prisoners. He told of the hardships they endured while there. They had three meals a day of rice and green soup. They dreamed of food and several poems were written about food. The artists drew pictures of different things that happened. The place was infested with fleas that tormented them constantly. They would wear their clothes to bed and tuck their pant legs into the top of their socks to protect their legs from the fleas. The first picture has a caption under it that said. Barracks scene. Time-out for a flea hunt, being routine procedure.
Some prisoners never seemed to tire of a "quanning" fire .They love to sit and blow and fan and then cook up something in a can. When there is no food in view, they even make plain water do.

He named it Four Years in the Land of Cherry Blossoms

The Awaited Day Has Arrived

The new parents have received their beautiful little girl. They are still in China, but were able to send pictures.

                                                             Jim, Cora and Chloe

She has a big family to grow up in. Mom, Dad, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Grandpa's and Grandma's galore. We can't wait to hold her ourselves. One of her Grandma's has a child day care that she will attend.  We are so blessed to have her in our family. Her middle name is Joy. How fitting is that?

I'm all dressed up and waiting for you.

I've been waiting for a long time.

I can't wait to meet my parents.

The Sky is Falling

No problem, I was able to find a spot for the garbage can by the mailbox so I didn't have to play musical garbage cans after all. It was icy in front of my house, but I live a block from two schools and they get the sand trucks out in the school area's so it was fine driving.
I got another Vitamin B12 shot. I found out the reading on the blood test was -50. It should be at least 180. I hope these shots will end this problem for good. Some people need to take the shots the rest of their lives. That sounds like a long time, but at my age it may only be another week.

The adoption of the Great Grandchild from China is taking forever. I think the only thing left on this side of the pond is the travel approval. Do they only have one person working in that place or do they have stacks and stacks of adoption papers. Now they will take off for the Christmas holiday and maybe the whole week. Or it might snow and they would need to shut down the whole operation until it goes away.
I just reread this and I really am full of gloom and doom.
Cheers to everybody. Tomorrow is a new day and may your day be full of good news.

Another Day another Rant

Not much of anything going on around here except the weather. Even the bears think it's too cold. It is now six degrees and the forecast is for 5 below zero. It snowed all day Monday.
They are still waiting for word on the adoption. There has been a delay and each delay seems to take another month or so. I don't know why it needs to be so complicated.
It snowed in Seattle and so they have called it a snow day for two days. That is one of the delays and now a holiday. The wheels of adoption move slowly.
Now I have my round of doctor's to go to. I am not sure why all this always seem to happen in the winter months. One week it's blood work. The next week it's the primary doctor. The next one is the eye doctor. Then the mammogram. I have to call them for an appointment so I will ask for March or wait until March to call. I wouldn't want to leave this out. In February I have the dreaded colonoskcopy. I don't know how to spell it and neither does spell-check. You never get too old for any of these things. I guess the older you get the more doctors you need to see.
It is 10 PM and time to turn out the lights. Goodnight all !!!!

The Wait Project chapter 20

Everybody listen up !!
They are not allowed to go get my cousin yet.
They need another document.
Can you believe it ??

I'm tired of this waiting game. I have my rocket ship
fired up and ready to go.

Always fasten your seat belt.
Chloe, I'm on my way.

I decided to wear my coat. It might be cold in China.
