Snow Day

December 1st 2019
Winter has arrived and so has the snow.
Are cats just dumb or is it stubborn? I opened the door and called her over to look out and she totally ignored me and just sat there staring into space.
I already took a Winter nap and had to look at the computer to see if it is Monday yet. No, it's still Sunday. In my past, I would be in church by now. No, I don't need a ride to church. I have turned into a lazy hazy elderly one. I was going to call myself an old lady but decided to quit insulting myself. I guess it isn't an insult to be old. It depends on your genes I think. My Grandpa Lockwood lived to be 89 back when people usually died in their 70's or so. I remember when back on the farm, he always took a long afternoon walk and when he returned he would lie down under the apple tree and take a long nap. I don't know if he realized exercise was good for him or it was just the way he liked to live. My Grandpa Potter lived to be 59. He died from a stroke.

The Olden Days

This is what school was like in my early days and I go back a few decades; there were no such things as snow days. If it snowed it was just another day on the calendar. You hauled yourself out of bed and put your freshly ironed clothes on and a warm coat and don't forget the goloshes, a waterproof overshoe made of rubber. Girls wore dresses, maybe it was a sin for a girl to wear pants. I'm not sure, but it seemed to be a strict rule. Girls could wear long socks in cold weather. That involved wearing a garter belt to fasten on to the socks. It was a belt with garters fastened to it, one for the back of the sock and one for the front. Must have been really cute, but whatever works. The school was located a mile North, and a half mile East from our home.  We would trudge through that snow to school. Our teacher would go to the school earlier and have a fire going in the coal burning pot-bellied stove. Coal was delivered to the school. She would have a bucket of water from the well with a ladle in it for drinking. We all drank from the same ladle, we didn't have a clue we were sharing our cold germs with each other. I remember one time she had a wash basin with some water she had heated a little for us to thaw our frozen hands in. I will never forget the time we were dreading walking home in the freezing weather and just as school let out our Dad was coming up the road with the team of horses and a wagon to take us home. It was still cold, but at least we didn't have to walk in the snow. Now the wimpy little kids...Just kidding, I am very thankful my grandkids don't have to go through those bad times.

Let it Stop Snowing

If it wasn't for injections I wouldn't have any life at all. I think the older you get the more you get poked with a needle. I told the nurse today that I already had one shot this week. She asked, where? I said, in the butt. She said, oh I mean which medical place? I don't think she thought it was funny.

Friday I will get my third injection for the week. Now I know how a pin cushion feels. I am thankful for the injections. The one I get Friday is in the eye and if I didn't get these injections I would be blind by now. I have already lost the central vision in one eye. The one I got today is for Osteoporosis. I only have to get it once a year.
She wanted to know if I had my bone scan and when. I told her I had the bone scan, but I can't remember when. I can't remember if I had breakfast or not and she wants to know when I had the scan. I think it was a few months ago, but I don't know what month it was. Then she asked where it was done at so she could call them. I didn't remember that one either. She named a couple places and I remembered the name of it. I wish they had an injection for memory loss. I'll bet she does too.
We're getting blessed with more wonderful snow tonight and tomorrow.

Let it Snow

Why do they constantly make changes when it works fine just as it is. I am referring to Blogger.
I have been trying to add a little drivel to my blog and when I click on the B it takes me to a place to make a new Blog. I already have this one, I don't want another one. I finally found a way to get to this section.
Our local news show a cat or a dog from the Humane shelter each night hoping someone will adopt them. Last night they showed an older small dog that was available for adoption. A lady had lost the dog some time ago and was sick about it. Imagine her joy when she was watching the news and found her lost dog. Tonight they showed her with her happy little dog. If you have a lost pet and enough money to post an ad on TV you might get lucky.
Now they are predicting more snow for us, I'm not jumping for joy, but let it snow.

Taken when the snow first came, there is still a lot hanging around because it stays so cold.
It is expected to be 15 degrees tonight.

Sick of Winter

Winter blew in with a vengeance and doesn't seem to have any plans on leaving anytime soon. We do need some wind to blow out some of the smog, fog, and other disgusting elements. Ugly snow decorates the terrain. The temperature stays in the freezing range day and night. It starts getting dark at four o'clock.
It's a recipe for depression.
Nothing exciting to watch on TV.  "Say yes to the dress" does not entertain me. I'd rather watch an old rerun of Daddy Longlegs. I was on board when TV came on the scene. Yakima only had three channels as I recall. It didn't matter what it was we watched it. No TV remote. If you wanted to watch something different you had to get off your butt to change the channel, but that wasn't as challenging for me as it is today.
It'll soon be Spring and we can start complaining about all the pot-holes in the street, and other little annoying things.
I just killed some time doing this so I feel better now.
No rhyme or reason for this photo.
He was my new husband in 1946.

Winter

Winter Time
I am thankful I don't have a sidewalk in front of my yard because I would be responsible for clearing the snow from it. The snow plow came by and cleared the snow from the street, and piled it up against the cars that are parked on the street. The snow freezes into solid ice. I don't know how the drivers will dig their cars out of the snowbanks. We already have 8 inches and now expecting 1 to 3 inches in the morning and below zero by the end of the week.
One good thing about it, I'm saving money on gas.
Meryl Streep wants a little attention I think. Give me a break. I didn't vote for him, but I don't care for her opinion
Now I hope the groundhog doesn't see his shadow. Or is it the other way.
